I usually start with a sketch then I block in the background with a color I think will either pop or set a certain mood.

Then I may start to lay in my first layer with black and white paint
SUPPLIES IN STUDIO
Here's how I prepare before entering into my studio. for me it takes months of preparation. I first start by purchasing my materials which can be either paper,canvas, or wood. sometimes all. then I choose various paint brushes and oil/acrylic paints.

Recently I've acquired an iPad which has opened up a wide range of possibilities for my art. Here I've painted a jazz player in one of my traditional styles. I'm learning so much and I'm allowing myself to push the envelope past my comfort zone.
